Forced shutdowns due to major interruptions in oil and gas supplies will likely increase in frequency as a consequence of the a number of key factors including:

  • Unavailability of adequate supplies and export concerns
  • Human factors i.e. armed conflicts and major civilian unrest in oil and gas-supplying countries, imposing further sanctions on the oil and gas industries
  • Cyber-attacks on the oil and gas-producing  countries and facilities 
  • Worsening climate change
